With a per-capita GDP of €35.618, well above the national average of €25.861, Bologna ranks second in Italy in terms of individual wealth produced. The territory has a ratio of 1 doctor per 110 inhabitants. The provision of qualified healthcare in Bologna means that the average life-expectancy is 78 years for men and 83 years for women.

With 18 m2 per capita of public green space, Bologna ranks among the first in Italy. The use of renewable sources of energy is spreading in the area and biological agriculture is also on the rise.
