The metropolitan area of Bologna is particularly favourable to logistics operations. There are several factors that make it especially competitive and attractive. For instance, its central position with respect to the main North-South East-West railway links, with direct connection to European Corridor V and crossed by Corridor I; or the Interporto di Bologna, Emilia-Romagna’s biggest intermodal platform and one of the biggest in Europe, which offers immediate access to the A13 Bologna-Padova motorway, is crossed by 20 kms of railway tracks and has an expansion capacity of 2.7 million square metres. Alongside numerous logistics platforms and operational centres, such as the new goods yard at Imola and the Guglielmo Marconi International Airport, there are many highly accessible sites that are ideal for logistic applications.
As well as having highly qualified human resources, thanks to the University and, in particular, its Master’s in Logistics and Transport Management, Bologna hosts a sector-specific trade show – Movint-Expologistica – which has consolidated its European- and Mediterranean-wide reputation as a point of reference for hoisting, handling and logistics. This explains why leading global logistics providers have included Bologna in their European network of platforms and a number of multinational companies have based their logistics centres in Bologna.
