Caterpillar, a world leader in the production of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines, bought over Bitelli, the historical Bolognese road construction equipment manufacturer, in 2000.
The group is a world leader in the manufacture of sports and luxury cars. Founded in 1963, Lamborghini, which is also known as the ‘House of the Bull’, became part of the German group Volkswagen in 1998. In 2006, the company’s turnover totalled 346 million euros, with 2,087 cars sold (+30.4% compared to 2005).
La Perla
The company, which specialises in top-of-the-range lingerie and swimwear, was established in Bologna in 1954. The group is structured around controlled companies (in Germany, USA, France and Spain) and exclusive importers, and in 2007 it was purchased by a US private-equity firm, JH Partners LLC.
Mortara Rangoni Europe
Mortara Rangoni Europe was created in Bologna in 1990 from a joint venture between the US firm Mortara Instrument, world leader in products for electrocardiography, and the longstanding experience of two important Bolognese electromedical firms, Rangoni Puricelli, founded at the start of the 20th century, and Ingegneri Battaglia Rangoni, founded after WWII.
OttoBock Italia
Otto Bock Healthcare, a German multinational, is world leader in products for disabled people and has been present in Bologna with a factory and multi-functional centre since the ’80s.
ProLogis
ProLogis is a world leader in integrated systems and services for logistics. It made its first investment in Bologna in 2004 in the Bologna Freight Village. In 2006, it set up the ‘ProLogis Park Bologna’, an area of more than 150,000 sqm devoted to advanced logistics.
