Both EU and non-EU citizens can open a bank account for carrying out standard, everyday operations such as:
- making a deposit
- cash withdrawals
- receiving or making payments (such as direct debit or credit card purchases). Often access to online banking services is also included as well as a payment card that can be used to withdraw cash and make purchases, both online and in stores.
To open a bank account, you will generally need the following documents:
- Identity document (ID card, passport, visa)
- Tax code (Codice Fiscale)
- Residence permit (Permesso di soggiorno or other document that attests to your residency status)
- some banks may also request a copy of your employment contract of your income tax records (dichiarazione dei redditi).
